Chartreuse and Indigo Shore
Nataly Mo’s 2026 landscape study presents a captivating, highly colourist interpretation of the East Anglian coastline, defined by dynamic surface tension and an adventurous chromatic palette. Moving beyond traditional naturalism, Mo constructs a heightened emotional ecology where delicate, ethereal atmosphere directly confronts bold, visceral form.
The composition relies on a dramatic structural dichotomy: a deep, brooding vertical sweep of midnight indigo water cuts sharply against a luminous expanse of electric chartreuse, lime, and warm, dusty pink. Mo demonstrates exceptional technical sensitivity in her tactile medium application—utilising coarse, granular impasto and heavy, scraped pigments in the foreground to embody the physical grit of marshland flora and sandy littoral soil. Above this high-octane foreground, a tranquil horizon of blush rose, turquoise, and deep viridian anchors the upper plane, creating a quiet, expansive contrast to the kinetic energy below.
By harmonising pastel luminosity with uninhibited colour saturation and sculptural paint application, Mo delivers a work that feels refreshingly contemporary while remaining deeply connected to the distinct spirit of the Suffolk marshes. It stands as a sophisticated exploration of colour theory, surface materiality, and landscape abstraction.
Nata Mo is an accomplished artist. Her extensive professional background includes studies in Kyiv and Paris. She has exhibited globally since 1995 and has created over 500 paintings, which are held in private collections worldwide. Her remarkable creative output is now fuelled by urgency: she faces the threat of complete vision loss due to a right optic nerve cancer diagnosis. Though doctors saved one eye, the spectre of blindness motivates her to see and achieve as much as possible, as she continues her celebrated artistic career.
